SERVICES TRENCH

We are pleased to share that an Expert Panel has made a final decision to grant approvals for the Waihi North Project.

This project displays OceanaGold’s ability to continue to support economic growth, create high-paying jobs, generate royalties, support communities, and boost exports at the same time as making a positive contribution to the environment.

OceanaGold will now commence the next phase of the Waihi North Project. Several conditions are attached to the project, most of which align with our current operating practices. Our immediate priority is finalising Management Plans that outline how we will meet these conditions.  At the same time, we will continue work on the services trench to allow water to be moved between the Willows Road site and our existing Water Treatment Plant which will be upgraded. Construction will also begin on a surface infrastructure area on the farm on Willows Road to support the future commencement of tunnelling works.

The final decision and related conditions and technical documents can be viewed here: Fast-track

Supplying Essential Services to our Willows Road Site

We’re installing infrastructure to carry water, power and fibre optic cable between our Waihi Processing Plant at Baxter Road and company owned property at the end of Willows Road, just north of Waihi. These services will be essential for building the surface infrastructure associated with the Wharekirauponga Underground Mine – if we gain approval for the proposed Waihi North Project.
The pipes will be buried underground in road reserve along SH25 and Willows Road, or on OceanaGold land.
We’ve obtained the necessary approvals from Hauraki District Council, Waikato Regional Council, and the NZ Transport Agency to undertake this work, which is separate from our Fast-track approvals process for the Waihi North Project.
Work is scheduled to begin in August 2025 and is expected to take approximately 12 months to complete, subject to weather conditions and other factors beyond our control.

HOW DOES THIS INTEGRATE WITH THE WAIHI NORTH PROJECT?
While the Waihi North Project remains under consideration as part of the Fast-track approvals process, we’re taking proactive steps to ensure we’re well positioned to begin work should approvals for that project be granted. By installing the essential services and infrastructure now, we’re setting ourselves up to start work quickly if the project is approved. This forward planning allows for a smoother transition between projects and helps maintain momentum across our operations in Waihi.

WE APPRECIATE YOUR CONSIDERATION WHILE WE GET THIS WORK DONE
Hours of work are between 7.00 am to 7.00 pm, Monday to Saturday.
We’re working with our contractors to minimise disruption wherever we can. We’ll do our best to let you know of any disruptions or delays ahead of time.
